The Senate Secretariat has purchased a luxury vehicle worth Rs90 million for the chairman of the Senate using funds from the upper house’s budget, with Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani confirming the acquisition, The Express Tribune reported.
According to sources, the vehicle has already been delivered to the Senate Secretariat in Islamabad after being procured through the Senate’s budgetary allocations.
Gilani confirmed that the car had been purchased and said the order had been placed in May last year. He said the vehicle was ordered using savings from the Senate’s budget of the previous year. The chairman added that he had attempted to return the car due to the country’s economic conditions but was informed that the vehicle had already arrived.
The purchase has drawn attention amid earlier discussions about salaries and perks of top parliamentary office holders.
