Russia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert Khorev, has offered to supply discounted oil to Pakistan amid disruptions linked to the Iran conflict, but said Islamabad has yet to make a formal request. The envoy said Moscow is ready to provide oil at concessional rates if approached, adding that no official contact has been made so far.
He stated that the energy sector remains central to bilateral cooperation and that any progress in oil supply arrangements depends on Pakistan initiating engagement.
The offer comes as regional tensions affect global energy markets, with Russia indicating that Pakistan could benefit from current conditions if it moves forward with a request.
On the Middle East situation, Khorev described the conflict as uncertain and called for restraint, urging a return to political and diplomatic engagement in line with the United Nations Charter.
He condemned reported airstrikes on civilian targets in Iran, including a school in Minab, and termed such actions violations of international law that risk further destabilising the region.
The ambassador also criticised the escalation following US and Israeli actions against Iran and said there was no evidence from the International Atomic Energy Agency to support claims that Iran was developing a nuclear weapon.
He reiterated Russia’s position that long-term stability in the region depends on dialogue, respect for sovereignty and consideration of the security interests of all states.
The ambassador also acknowledged Pakistan’s stance on the Ukraine conflict and expressed interest in expanding cooperation frameworks across the region.
Separately, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said the deputy prime minister held a telephone call with Azerbaijan’s foreign minister to discuss regional developments and bilateral matters.
Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan also met the deputy prime minister and conveyed appreciation for Pakistan’s support, while Pakistan reiterated condolences over recent losses and emphasised dialogue as the path forward.
