Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said that the federal government has absorbed Rs69 billion to maintain stability in petroleum product prices and provide relief to consumers.
Speaking to reporters, the finance minister said the government is prioritising measures to minimise financial pressure on the public while managing limited resources. He warned that ongoing regional tensions and a possible war situation could pose risks to energy infrastructure and disrupt supply chains.
Responding to a question, the minister said the energy supply situation is expected to improve by April and that the country is unlikely to face a major crisis.
He said the government is working on demand management, efficient energy use and conservation measures to reduce unnecessary consumption and ensure sustainability.
Aurangzeb added that a targeted relief package is being prepared for low-income groups to ease the impact of inflation and provide support to vulnerable segments.
He invited economists and stakeholders to share proposals to support policymaking and noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has outlined economic and energy challenges in recent statements.
The finance minister also extended Eid-ul-Fitr greetings and expressed confidence that the country would manage current challenges through coordinated efforts.
