Zardari calls for public relief, urges action on soaring fuel prices

President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday instructed the government to prioritise measures that ease the financial burden on citizens, particularly in light of rising petroleum prices. The directives came during a high-level meeting held at Bhutto House.

Attendees included Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Faryal Talpur, and Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah.

Officials said the session covered a range of issues, including the law and order situation, economic trends, and developments in the energy sector. Interior Minister Naqvi provided briefings on counterterrorism operations and border security, while regional tensions with Afghanistan and broader security concerns were also discussed.

Finance and petroleum officials presented updates on key economic indicators and outlined government steps related to petroleum pricing. President Zardari stressed that rising fuel costs should not disproportionately affect ordinary citizens and urged authorities to ensure economic policies focus on public relief.
