Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has commenced oil production from its Pasakhi-13 well, marking Pakistan’s first successful horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir, according to a disclosure to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
The well, located in the Hyderabad district of Sindh, is currently producing 460 barrels of oil per day (BPD).
OGDCL said the well was drilled to a measured depth of 2,966 metres, including a 546-metre horizontal section, using geo-steering technology to navigate a narrow drilling window and target the reservoir zone.
The company completed and tested the well using a short string Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) designed for horizontal well configurations.
According to the disclosure, horizontal drilling allowed greater reservoir exposure, resulting in production levels nearly three times higher than offset wells under similar conditions.
Pasakhi-13 is part of the Pasakhi and Pasakhi North Development and Production Lease, where OGDCL holds a 100% working interest.
The company said the development supports increased domestic oil production and contributes to strengthening the country’s energy supply.
