The federal government has directed authorities to formulate a strategy for exporting surplus food items to Gulf countries while ensuring domestic food security.
The direction was issued during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, where food availability and export plans were discussed.
Officials informed the prime minister that food items are currently available in sufficient quantities across the country. The minister also briefed the meeting on progress regarding food exports to Gulf markets.
The prime minister instructed authorities to closely monitor supply and demand to safeguard national food requirements.
He directed that export plans should focus on surplus production and must not disrupt domestic availability.
Officials said Pakistan’s agricultural sector, including crops, meat, poultry, dairy and seafood, has the capacity to support increased exports to international markets.
