A delegation from Foodpanda Pakistan met with Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, Chairperson of the Punjab Revenue Authority, to discuss initiatives for strengthening tax compliance within Punjab’s digital food service sector.
Officials from the PRA said the meeting focused on strategies to integrate online food platforms and related businesses into the provincial tax net. The Foodpanda delegation expressed readiness to cooperate in documenting the digital food economy, encouraging compliance among service providers, and supporting public awareness campaigns on tax obligations.
Participants highlighted that leveraging technology could significantly reduce tax evasion, enhance transparency in business operations, and offer greater convenience to consumers, while simultaneously boosting revenue collection.
Chairperson PRA, Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, emphasized that promoting a cashless economy and expanding online services are key government priorities. He stated that collaboration with food delivery platforms would help bring unregistered service providers under the tax framework. He further noted that no licences issued by the Punjab Food Authority would be granted without prior registration with the PRA, underscoring the importance of proper documentation for tax compliance within the sector.
The chairperson added that it is a national responsibility to ensure that taxes collected from the public are deposited into the government treasury. He also announced plans to launch awareness campaigns in educational institutions across Punjab to promote tax culture and encourage responsible tax practices among youth.
