OGDCL appraises gas and condensate in bilitang-1-ST-1 well, Kohat

ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (Oil and Gas Development Company Limited) has announced a significant increase in domestic hydrocarbon potential following the successful appraisal of gas flow from the Bilitang-1 well in the TAL Block, located in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On Friday, OGDC, along with its joint venture partners, confirmed that the Lumshiwal Formation in the Bilitang-1 ST-1 exploratory well has yielded gas at a rate of 26.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd), along with traces of condensate.

The TAL Block joint venture includes MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas Co. B.V. as operator with a 10 percent working interest, OGDC with 30 percent, Pakistan Petroleum Limited holding 30 percent, Pakistan Oilfields Limited with 25 percent, and Government Holdings Private Limited with 5 percent.

The well was spudded on August 10, 2025, and later sidetracked to target improved reservoir quality. It was drilled to a total depth of 4,004 meters true vertical depth (TVD). Based on the interpretation of logging-while-drilling (LWD) and wireline log data, the formation was tested at a choke size of 32/64 inches, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 4,214 pounds per square inch (psi).

OGDC stated that the successful appraisal has effectively de-risked further exploration prospects within the TAL Block and opened up new upside opportunities in the region.

The company added that this development is expected to enhance Pakistan’s energy security by increasing reliance on indigenous resources, while also contributing to the hydrocarbon reserves base of both the joint venture partners and the country.

The TAL Block, one of the most productive hydrocarbon regions in Pakistan, continues to play a critical role in sustaining domestic gas supply amid rising energy demand.
