Kuwait assures support for Pakistani fuel shipments as energy ties deepen

Kuwait has assured Pakistan of continued logistical support for fuel supplies, with the state-owned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation committing to fully facilitate Pakistani-flagged vessels in the event of diesel and jet fuel cargo lifting from Kuwaiti ports.

The assurance was conveyed during a meeting between Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi on Monday, where both sides reviewed bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and discussed evolving regional developments, according to an official statement.

Officials noted that the Kuwaiti oil major manages extensive global hydrocarbon operations spanning exploration, refining, and marketing, and accounts for roughly 7 percent of global crude oil production. As of March 2026, the corporation has declared force majeure on certain fuel sales due to shipping disruptions in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, underscoring the fragile logistics environment in the region.

During the talks, the Pakistani minister expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s longstanding support in ensuring Pakistan’s energy security, particularly during periods of global supply volatility. He requested the envoy to convey his regards to Kuwait’s Minister of Oil Tariq Suleiman Ahmed Al-Roumi and to the chief executive of KPC, Sheikh Nawaf Al Sabah.

Highlighting the historical dimension of the relationship, Malik noted that Pakistan has been importing petroleum products from Kuwait for more than five decades, with diesel remaining a core component of the bilateral energy trade.

The minister also reiterated Pakistan’s position on regional stability, stating that the government, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting peaceful conflict resolution and ensuring the uninterrupted supply of food and essential commodities to member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council when required.

The Kuwaiti ambassador, in response, commended Pakistan’s constructive role in advocating restraint and dialogue during a period of heightened regional tensions. He also acknowledged the contributions of Pakistan’s people and armed forces in supporting peace-oriented initiatives.

Both sides concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy domain, and agreed to maintain close coordination to explore new trade and investment opportunities in the months ahead.
