Petrol price slashed to Rs378 per litre as PM Shehbaz cuts Rs80 levy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday announced an Rs80-per-litre cut in the petrol levy, bringing the price down from Rs458 to Rs378 per litre. The new rate takes effect nationwide at 12am Saturday and will remain in place for one month.

The move comes after a record 43% petrol hike and a 55% rise in high-speed diesel due to soaring international oil prices amid the ongoing Middle East war.

Addressing the nation, PM Shehbaz said the reduction aims to ease the burden on farmers, low-income households, and ordinary citizens. He added that Pakistan, like other major economies, is grappling with global inflation, and limited national resources had been carefully deployed to shield the public over the past three weeks.

The premier stressed that the temporary relief reflects the government’s commitment to public welfare amid unprecedented international energy pressures.
