Rains, hailstorms threaten wheat, mango crops in South Punjab
Up to 29mm rainfall recorded in Multan; outages, drainage emergency as more rain forecast

Heavy rain, strong winds and scattered hailstorms have raised concerns over potential damage to wheat crops and mango orchards across South Punjab, with further rainfall expected in the coming days.
Initial reports indicate possible crop losses, though a full assessment is yet to be completed. The weather also caused electricity disruptions as multiple feeders of the Multan Electric Power Company tripped during the storm.
In Multan, the Water and Sanitation Agency activated emergency operations after rainfall intensified on Thursday night. Staff across all divisions were deployed, and disposal stations were operated at full capacity to drain water from major roads, low-lying areas and residential zones.
Officials reported the highest rainfall of 29mm at Suraj Miani and Kiri Jamandan, followed by 18.6mm at Old Shujabad Road, 15mm at Chungi No. 9 and 13mm at Khan Village.
Authorities said all available resources have been mobilised to maintain drainage and traffic flow, while teams remain on alert as additional rainfall is forecast.
