Customs authorities in Karachi intensified anti-smuggling efforts in March, carrying out 77 operations that resulted in the seizure of contraband goods valued at Rs1.8 billion—nearly four times the monthly average, the Federal Board of Revenue said on Saturday.
The haul included 527 kilograms of silver bars, 240 kilograms of narcotics, 725 bottles of high-end liquor, cigarettes, betel nuts, vapes, 800 mobile phones, and 40,000 litres of diesel.
Officials highlighted that the surge in seizures reflects stronger enforcement measures and coordinated action by the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi. The operations aimed to curb illegal trade and prevent revenue losses, while sending a clear message to smugglers operating in the region.
The FBR report noted that the volume of confiscated goods this month represents one of the most successful crackdowns in recent years, underscoring the growing focus on tackling contraband along key trade and transit routes.
