ILO partners with industry bodies to support Pakistan’s textile sector compliance, labour standards

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has signed agreements with key industry bodies to support Pakistan’s textile and apparel sector in improving labour standards and compliance with global supply chain requirements.

The agreements, signed in collaboration with the Employers’ Federation of Pakistan, include memorandums of understanding with the Towel Manufacturers Association and the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association.

Under the partnership, the ILO will provide advisory services, training and compliance support to enterprises and workers, while also generating data and knowledge resources to inform workplace practices and policy development.

The initiative aims to strengthen employment quality, promote compliance with labour standards and support sustainable growth in the export-oriented textile sector.

The programme will focus on areas including gender equality, access to opportunities and strengthening social dialogue within workplaces.

The collaboration is being implemented through the ILO’s Better Work Programme and the SME Formalisation and Just Transition projects, which are designed to promote responsible business practices across textile supply chains.
