Customs issues directives to improve salt export packaging, avoid shipment delays
Authorities link damaged consignments to poor re-sealing, incorrect HS codes triggering repeated inspections

Pakistan Customs Export Collectorate has issued directives to ensure the uninterrupted export of salt consignments, focusing on improved packaging and streamlined inspection procedures.
The measures were discussed during a meeting between Collector Customs Export Rizwan Mahmood and representatives of the Salt Manufacturers Association.
Officials and exporters agreed on steps to address issues affecting shipments, particularly complaints from foreign buyers about damaged packaging upon arrival.
Exporters informed authorities that consignments were being compromised due to improper re-sealing of containers after Customs inspections at ports.
Customs officials acknowledged the issue and directed that re-sealing practices be improved to prevent damage during transit.
The meeting also highlighted that repeated inspections were being triggered by export declarations filed under incorrect HS codes.
Authorities instructed exporters to avoid using general trade codes and ensure accurate classification to reduce unnecessary checks and delays.
Officials said these measures are aimed at improving compliance, reducing inspection-related disruptions, and maintaining export flow.
