Govt launches subsidy for small farmers amid energy cost pressures

The federal government has launched a subsidy programme for small farmers to offset the impact of rising energy costs, with eligibility limited to those owning less than 12 acres of land.

According to an official announcement, farmers can register for the scheme through the Pakistan Asaan Khidmat application by submitting personal details and required documentation.

A senior official said the government will provide Rs1,500 per acre, with payments to be transferred directly into farmers’ bank accounts or mobile wallets, including JazzCash and Easypaisa.

The initiative follows targeted relief measures announced on April 3 for motorcyclists, small farmers and transporters.

Punjab authorities said more than one million farmers have been issued Kissan Cards, while wheat sowing in the province has exceeded 16 million acres. Farmers and transporters are also being facilitated through digital access mechanisms, including Kissan Cards and cash vouchers.

Separately, the Sindh government has announced a Rs3 billion relief package for 366,000 small farmers to address higher diesel costs during the wheat harvesting season.
