SNGPL seeks 21% gas price hike, SSGCL proposes up to 286% increase including past shortfalls

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) have sought significant increases in prescribed gas prices for FY2026-27 to meet revenue requirements, with OGRA scheduling public hearings later this month.

According to petitions finalised by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), SNGPL has requested a 21% increase in its prescribed price, while SSGCL has sought a 121% hike, which rises to 286% when including past unrecovered shortfalls.

OGRA will hold a hearing on April 21 to consider SNGPL’s request to raise its prescribed price from Rs1,853 per mmbtu to Rs2,162, including the cost of LNG diversion.

The company has reported a revenue shortfall of Rs585 billion, which includes Rs576 billion carried forward from previous years.

Separately, OGRA has scheduled a hearing on April 22 to review SSGCL’s petition seeking an increase in its prescribed price from Rs1,777 per mmbtu to Rs3,935, representing a 121% rise.

SSGCL has also requested recovery of over Rs545 billion in past shortfalls, which would raise the total prescribed price requirement to Rs6,855 per mmbtu, implying an overall increase of Rs5,078 or 286%.

The company stated that the proposed revisions are aimed at meeting a total revenue requirement of Rs1.28 trillion.

The regulator will review both petitions during the hearings before making recommendations to the federal government on revised gas pricing.
