ISLAMABAD:Shahbaz-led government’s fuel price stability efforts have received a boost as the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority disbursed Rs38 billion in pending claims to oil marketing companies under a government-backed mechanism.
In a significant move aimed at maintaining fuel prices at affordable levels, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has processed and released approximately Rs38 billion in Price Differential Claims (PDC) to 34 Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
The disbursement has been carried out in line with the Federal Government’s decision to shield consumers from fluctuations in petroleum prices, ensuring stability in the domestic fuel market. Officials said the payments were made under a structured and transparent mechanism developed in concurrence with the government.
“OGRA has implemented the Federal Government decision through a mechanism, duly concurred by the Federal Government, aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and timeliness in the verification and release of PDCs,” said OGRA Spokesperson.
According to OGRA, the framework has been designed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and timeliness in the verification and settlement of claims. The mechanism ensures a systematic evaluation of submissions by OMCs, enabling swift processing of legitimate claims while maintaining financial discipline across the sector.
The authority emphasized that the initiative is part of broader efforts to support price stability and strengthen confidence in the oil supply chain. By clearing outstanding dues, OGRA aims to facilitate smoother operations for OMCs, which play a critical role in ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply across the country.
Reaffirming its commitment, OGRA stated that it will continue to support government policies focused on stabilizing petroleum prices while safeguarding the interests of all stakeholders, including consumers and industry players.
“The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government efforts to stabilize petroleum prices while safeguarding the interests of all stakeholders across the oil supply chain,” said OGRA Spokesperson.
OGRA spokesperson Imran Ghaznavi said the authority remains focused on ensuring transparency and efficiency in the implementation of the PDC mechanism, adding that timely disbursements are essential for sustaining market balance and operational continuity in the petroleum sector.
