Govt working to stabilise fuel prices amid global tensions, says petroleum minister

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said on Sunday that the government is working to stabilise fuel prices and manage volatility in the petroleum sector, while prioritising relief for consumers amid global economic pressures.

Speaking to a local media channel, he said efforts are underway to maintain balance in fuel pricing despite external shocks linked to ongoing regional conflicts, adding that policy decisions are being shaped to protect the public from rising costs.

The minister said the government is focused on easing the burden on consumers while ensuring supply stability, noting that continued reforms are aimed at managing price pressures without disrupting the energy market.

He said Pakistan’s economic position remains relatively stable compared to several regional economies that have faced significant stress in recent years, including India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The minister also highlighted the role of civil and military leadership in strengthening Pakistan’s diplomatic standing, referring to engagement led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

He said Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue in the Middle East crisis has been recognised internationally, adding that recent flexibility shown by the United States and Iran is a positive signal for de-escalation.

However, he noted that both sides still need to move towards a comprehensive and lasting agreement to ensure long-term stability in the region.

The minister expressed confidence that ongoing policy measures, combined with diplomatic engagement, would help sustain economic stability and provide further relief to consumers.
