Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited has returned to profitability after more than four years and plans to launch 5G services next month, according to its first-quarter results for 2026.
The group reported a net profit of Rs3.1 billion for January–March, reversing a net loss of Rs4 billion in the same period last year. Revenues increased by 58% year-on-year.
Company officials said performance improved following the consolidation of Telenor Pakistan into the group, which supported growth across broadband, enterprise, wholesale and mobile segments.
Operating profit rose by 564% during the quarter, driven by the expanded business base.
The company said it is preparing to launch 5G services in May through its mobile subsidiary Ufone, subject to obtaining a commercial licence from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
Management said the ongoing integration of Ufone and Telenor Pakistan is expected to improve service quality and network coverage for customers.
Officials noted that external factors, including regional tensions, may affect financial performance in the second quarter through higher fuel costs and interest rates.
They said the overall impact would depend on developments in the region, with mitigation measures in place to manage potential risks.
Another group entity, U Bank, reported revenues of Rs5.8 billion during the quarter, along with improved profitability, indicating recovery in its banking operations.
