Govt to provide electric bikes to employees up to BPS-16 under EV push
30% vehicle shift target to save $4.5 billion fuel imports, 72 bike and rickshaw, four car manufacturing approvals issued

The federal government on Wednesday approved a plan to provide electric motorcycles to government employees up to BPS-16 on easy instalments as part of efforts to promote electric vehicle adoption.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting on electric mobility, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where officials outlined plans to transition 30% of vehicles to electric power within five years.
Authorities said the shift is expected to reduce fuel imports by around $4.5 billion, while also supporting energy security and environmental objectives.
The prime minister directed relevant departments to accelerate the implementation of the National Electric Vehicle Policy and ensure transparency in the provision of subsidies for electric motorcycles.
Officials informed the meeting that 72 manufacturing certificates have been issued for electric motorcycles and rickshaws, along with four approvals for electric cars.
In addition, 123 applications have been received for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations across the country.
The prime minister instructed that the rollout of the electric bike scheme and related infrastructure be expedited to support wider adoption of electric vehicles.
