KP cabinet approves wheat procurement of 225,000 tonnes at Rs3,500 per 40kg
Rs19.68 billion plan cleared, digital civil registration reforms, minority funds, health and climate measures also approved

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved procurement of 225,000 metric tonnes of wheat from public sector growers at a rate of Rs3,500 per 40 kilogrammes, with a total financial outlay of Rs19.68 billion.
The decision was taken at the 52nd meeting of the provincial cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
The cabinet also approved digital reforms for civil registration services, including online registration and certification of births, deaths, marriages, divorces and dissolution of marriages.
In agriculture and research, land transfer was approved for establishment of a Temperate Rice Research Station in Malakand Division.
The cabinet endorsed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Action Board (Amendment) Bill, 2026, providing for political oversight through a Climate Council and creation of an Emergency, Rehabilitation and Resilience Fund.
A grant of Rs112.5 million was approved for the Chief Minister’s Digital Inclusion Programme for minority students, while seed money for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rehabilitation of Minorities Endowment Fund was increased from Rs200 million to Rs300 million.
The cabinet approved a compensation package of Rs2.5 million for each deceased person and Rs1 million for each injured individual affected in incidents in Mardan, Nowshera and Haripur.
In the education sector, Rs168.10 million was sanctioned as grant-in-aid for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation.
The cabinet approved financial rules for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Servants Housing Foundation, revision of service rules of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board and re-engagement of school leaders on a contract basis.
In the health sector, the cabinet approved the upgradation of Miangul Abdul Haq Jahanzeb Kidney Hospital Swat into a specialised kidney transplant centre with an additional grant of Rs180 million. It also approved integration of the Institute of Mental Health Sciences Peshawar as a constituent unit of MTI Hayatabad Medical Complex.
Separately, the cabinet expressed concern over gas shortages in the province despite local production of around 400 MMCFD against a requirement of 150 MMCFD.
The chief minister said the province supplies surplus gas to the federation and other regions but continues to face load shedding affecting domestic consumers, businesses and the CNG sector. He said the provincial government would take further steps if the issue is not addressed and announced a jirga of tribal elders and political parties to discuss the situation.
