The government on Friday introduced the Pakistan Sovereign Wealth Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Senate to revise provisions related to governance, fiscal safeguards and disclosure requirements of the sovereign fund.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry presented the bill in the Upper House on behalf of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, who is the original mover of the legislation.
The bill was later referred to the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue for further review.
According to the Statement of Objects and Reasons, the Pakistan Sovereign Wealth Fund was established under the Pakistan Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, 2023.
The statement said Section 4 of the existing law defines the fund’s primary objective as contributing to sustainable economic development through management and optimal utilisation of its funds and assets in line with international standards and policies to maximise value for future generations.
The amendment bill seeks to introduce fiscal safeguards, improve the governance structure and enhance public disclosure and reporting requirements under the law.
