FBR seeks detailed documentation from INGOs for tax registration

The Federal Board of Revenue has directed international non-government organisations operating in Pakistan to provide detailed documentation for registration with the tax department.

In this regard, the FBR on Tuesday issued S.R.O. 856(I)/2026 proposing draft amendments to the Income Tax Rules, 2002.

Under the proposed requirements, INGOs seeking registration will have to provide details including the taxpayer’s name, business address, accounting period, principal business activity and contact information.

The proposed rules also require submission of the name and address of the principal officer or authorised representative of the organisation in Pakistan.

According to the notification, INGOs will also have to submit an authority letter appointing the principal officer or authorised representative for registration purposes.

The FBR further directed organisations to provide the representative’s mobile phone number, email address and tax registration or incorporation documents issued by relevant authorities in their home country.

Officials said the proposed amendments were aimed at streamlining registration procedures and documentation requirements for international organisations operating in Pakistan.
