Pakistan receives $1.3 billion from International Monetary Fund
SDR 760 million disbursed under Extended Fund Facility and SDR 154 million under Resilience and Sustainability Facility programmes
May 13, 2026

The State Bank of Pakistan on Wednesday said it had received SDR 914 million (equivalent to about US$ 1.3 billion) from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the Extended Fund Facility and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility programmes.
“The IMF Executive Board completed third review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) in its meeting held on 08 May 2026, and approved disbursement of SDR 760 million for Pakistan. Furthermore, the IMF Executive Board has also approved disbursement of second tranche of SDR 154 million under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF),” read the SBP notice.
The central bank said the amount would be reflected in its foreign exchange reserves for the week ending May 15, 2026.
The inflow follows approval by the IMF Executive Board last week of Pakistan’s third review under the Extended Fund Facility and second review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility.
The approval was granted during a meeting of the IMF Executive Board held in Washington on May 9.
Following the decision, Pakistan became eligible for an immediate disbursement of about $1.1 billion under the EFF arrangement and approximately $220 million under the RSF arrangement.
According to the IMF, total disbursements under the two programmes have now reached around $4.8 billion.
The latest approval came after a staff-level agreement reached on March 27 between IMF staff led by Iva Petrova and Pakistani authorities following policy discussions held in Karachi and Islamabad between February 25 and March 2, along with subsequent virtual engagements.
Pakistan’s 37-month Extended Fund Facility programme was approved by the IMF on September 25, 2024, with the stated objective of supporting economic stability, resilience and sustainable growth.
