Pakistan invites Kuwait to invest in ports, fuel storage and Energy City projects

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry invited Kuwait to invest in Pakistan’s maritime, energy storage and logistics infrastructure projects during a meeting with Kuwait’s Ambassador Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Al-Mutairi, according to a statement issued by the ministry on Thursday.

During the meeting, the maritime minister presented a range of investment opportunities, including fuel storage facilities, bonded terminals, jetty construction, port infrastructure and the government’s proposed “Energy City” initiative aimed at developing integrated energy and logistics hubs near major ports.

The discussions also covered projects related to the storage and handling of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), crude oil and white oil products at Pakistani ports.

Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said Pakistan was seeking international partnerships to modernise its maritime sector and strengthen its position in regional trade and energy transit.

He also proposed rental-based bonded storage facilities to support regional trade flows and improve supply chain efficiency for energy imports and exports.

Among the projects discussed was a proposed multipurpose terminal at Port Qasim near Karachi, where the government plans to expand cargo-handling and storage infrastructure.

The minister assured Kuwaiti investors of government facilitation for potential investments in infrastructure development and jetty construction projects.

According to the statement, the discussions formed part of Pakistan’s broader efforts to attract foreign investment into the transport, logistics and maritime sectors while expanding economic cooperation with Gulf countries.

The Kuwaiti ambassador expressed interest in reviewing the proposed projects, particularly those related to the Energy City initiative and port-based fuel storage infrastructure.

Both sides agreed to continue consultations and follow-up engagements on potential areas of cooperation in the maritime sector.
