Pakistan nominated to World Customs Organisation Policy Commission after nearly 70 years

Pakistan has been nominated to the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Policy Commission for the 2026-28 term for the first time in nearly 70 years, according to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The election took place during the Asia-Pacific regional meeting held in Hong Kong from May 18 to 20.

Pakistan secured one of five seats allocated to the Asia-Pacific region after a contest involving six candidate countries.

The nomination will now be presented before the WCO Council Session in June for formal approval through acclamation.

The WCO Policy Commission serves as the organisation’s main strategic policy forum and is responsible for shaping global customs policies related to trade facilitation, customs modernisation, digital transformation, enforcement cooperation and governance reforms.

The FBR said Pakistan’s nomination reflected progress made by Pakistan Customs in recent years, including implementation of the Pakistan Single Window, digital customs reforms and regional connectivity initiatives.

According to the FBR, Pakistan also strengthened its engagement with the WCO and Asia-Pacific member states after establishing a permanent mission to the organisation in Brussels in September 2023.
