PM expands ECC, adds Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui as member

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday approved the expansion of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet, with Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui added as a member.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on May 20, 2026, the prime minister reconstituted the ECC under Rule 17(2) of the Rules of Business, 1973, superseding an earlier notification issued on November 20, 2025.

The notification stated that Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb will continue to serve as chairman of the committee.

The reconstituted ECC includes the ministers for the Board of Investment, Commerce, Economic Affairs, National Food Security and Research, Petroleum, Power, Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, and Federal Education and Professional Training.

The ECC is one of the federal government’s main cabinet committees responsible for taking key economic and financial decisions.

The committee functions as a fast-track mechanism for urgent economic matters before formal approval by the federal cabinet.

The ECC operates under the federal cabinet and is generally chaired by the finance minister, although the prime minister may also preside over meetings when required.
