Local mobile phone assembly drops 35% in April as demand slows

Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly declined sharply in April 2026, with production falling 35% month-on-month, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. According to a report by Topline Securities.

Local manufacturers assembled or produced 1.81 million mobile phones during April, compared to 2.79 million units in March, reflecting a broad slowdown in handset activity during the month. Imports, meanwhile, rose modestly by 6% month-on-month to 370,000 units.

Overall mobile phone availability in the country — including both locally assembled and imported devices — stood at 2.18 million units in April, down 34% from 3.14 million units recorded in March.

Despite the monthly decline, locally assembled phones continued to dominate the market. Pakistan fulfilled 83% of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing and assembly in April, though this was lower than the 89% recorded a month earlier. On a cumulative basis, the ratio stood at 85% during the first four months of 2026.

Cumulatively, local manufacturing and assembly reached 9.17 million units in 4M2026, highlighting the sector’s continued scale despite the April slowdown.

A year-on-year comparison for April 2026 and the January-April period could not be calculated because April and May 2025 figures were previously published on a cumulative basis.
