Ecnec approves ML-1, Havelian Dry Port, Thar rail connectivity and health projects

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, on Friday approved a series of infrastructure, irrigation, transport, health and rehabilitation projects across the country.

According to a statement issued by the deputy prime minister’s office, the meeting approved development priorities for all provinces and regions with a focus on infrastructure, public services and long-term economic stability.

Dar said the government remained focused on infrastructure development, improved public services, regional balance and long-term economic resilience.

Among the major projects approved were the detailed design of ML-1, Havelian Dry Port, Lowari Tunnel access works, Thar Coal Rail Connectivity, Kachhi Canal, irrigation improvement projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad Jinnah Hospital, the Sindh Human Capital 1000 Days Programme, Sindh flood rehabilitation support and arrangements related to the Diamer-Bhasha Dam.

Officials said the approved agenda covered projects aimed at improving connectivity, water management, healthcare services and post-flood rehabilitation.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Punjab Planning Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Sindh Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro and senior officials from relevant ministries.

Ecnec was constituted on June 7, 2024, with eight members, including four from the federal government and one representative each from the four provinces.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif initially chaired the committee before appointing Ishaq Dar as alternate chairman.

The committee is responsible for approving development projects costing Rs7.5 billion and above.
