Govt calls ECC meeting to review funding proposals worth billions before federal budget

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has been convened for a key meeting over the weekend ahead of the federal budget, where funding proposals and development initiatives involving billions of rupees are expected to come under consideration.

According to reports, the committee will review a range of supplementary grants, additional allocations and development-related proposals that could influence fiscal priorities before the announcement of the budget.

Among the major items on the agenda is a grant of more than ₨7 billion under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) programme. The ECC is also expected to consider ₨528 million for the Pakistan Land Ports Authority.

The committee will review a proposal for ₨150 million in additional funding for the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA).

Security-related expenditures are also expected to feature prominently, including a proposal for more than ₨410 million linked to payments for the Reko Diq project and ₨690 million for security arrangements associated with the Islamabad peace talks.

Sources said the agenda includes the transfer of development funds under the Karachi and Hyderabad package, as well as proposals related to the redistribution of special programme funds for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The ECC will also consider a ₨1.3 billion proposal for the upgradation of the Pakistan Mint.

In addition, the committee is expected to discuss a syndicated financing facility for Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and review an agreement related to an oil refinery upgrade project.

Officials said supplementary grants and additional allocations for various ministries are also likely to be considered as the government finalises key fiscal and development decisions ahead of the upcoming federal budget.
