LUMS launches ₨100 million Qarz-e-Hasna fund to mark Syed Babar Ali's 100th birthday

LAHORE: Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has announced the launch of the Syed Babar Ali Hundred for Hundred Qarz-e-Hasna Fund, a ₨100 million financial assistance initiative, to commemorate the 100th birthday of its Founding Pro Chancellor, Syed Babar Ali.

The university said the fund has been established through contributions from the Hundred for Hundred Founding Donors, a group of LUMS alumni and supporters who came together to honour Syed Babar Ali's contribution to education and higher learning in Pakistan.

According to LUMS, the initiative is intended to expand access to education by providing financial assistance to deserving students through the Qarz-e-Hasna programme.

The university described the fund as a tribute to Syed Babar Ali's role in promoting excellence, access to education and nation-building through higher education.

LUMS acknowledged the contributions of the founding donors, including Emma Ahmed and Usman Ahmed (MBA 1995), Zahrah and Sohail Khan (MBA 1996), Muneeb Ali (BSc 2003), Zarina Almakky and Ali Almakky (MBA 1996), Saadia Ikram and Shahzad Ali (BSc 1997), and Ayesha and Shahzad Saleem (MBA 1989).

The university said the fund would help ensure that qualified students continue to benefit from a LUMS education in the years ahead, reflecting Syed Babar Ali's longstanding commitment to expanding educational opportunities in Pakistan.
