Passenger car sales in Pakistan increased by 48% to 140,253 units during the first 11 months of fiscal year 2025-26, compared with 94,544 units in the corresponding period last year, according to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association.
In May alone, passenger car sales rose by 19% year-on-year to 13,211 units from 11,143 units. However, sales fell by 24% on a month-on-month basis from 17,387 units recorded in April.
Topline Research attributed the annual growth to new market entrants, product launches, relatively lower inflation in earlier months, and an increase in automobile financing.
However, the monthly decline was mainly caused by fewer working days during May because of Eid al-Azha holidays, which delayed vehicle deliveries. Market speculation about a possible reduction in tax rates may also have encouraged some buyers to defer purchases.
The brokerage expects sales momentum to continue in FY27, supported by the introduction of new variants and brands.
