The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has recorded the highest annual cargo handling volume in its 138-year history, Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said on Sunday.
The minister said KPT had surpassed its previous all-time record of 54.685 million tonnes during the current fiscal year. He attributed the performance to improved operational efficiency, effective management and increased port capacity.
Chaudhry said the achievement showed progress in Pakistan’s maritime economy, port infrastructure and trade, and reflected the Ministry of Maritime Affairs’ reform agenda.
He congratulated KPT Chairman Rear Admiral (retd) Shahid Ahmed, the port’s officers and employees, and other stakeholders for the performance.
The minister said the government was working to modernise ports, expand capacity, improve logistics infrastructure and provide facilities in line with international standards.
He said the ministry remained committed to upgrading national ports, attracting investment and promoting trade activity to support economic growth.
KPT Chairman Rear Admiral (retd) Shahid Ahmed also congratulated the port’s workforce and said the achievement reflected the organisation’s strategy, professionalism and teamwork.
He said efforts would continue to improve KPT’s operational performance and competitiveness.
