Privatisation of FESCO, GEPCO and IESCO to begin in final quarter of 2026
Bidders to be shortlisted after EOI deadlines as government prioritises DISCOs with transmission and distribution losses of around 9-10%

The federal government plans to begin privatising Faisalabad Electric Supply Company, Gujranwala Electric Power Company and Islamabad Electric Supply Company in the final quarter of 2026 after completing the shortlisting of prospective bidders, Business Recorder reported.
Privatisation Commission Secretary Usman Akhtar Bajwa shared the timeline with the National Assembly Standing Committee on Privatisation, chaired by MNA Farooq Sattar.
He said expressions of interest had been invited for the three distribution companies because their transmission and distribution losses of around 9-10% were considered manageable and their financial positions made them more suitable for the first phase.
The deadline for submitting expressions of interest for FESCO was July 7. The corresponding deadlines are August 6 for GEPCO and September 7 for IESCO.
Bajwa said Hyderabad Electric Supply Corporation and Sukkur Electric Supply Corporation would be taken up in the next phase.
All distribution companies except Quetta Electric Supply Company and Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company are included in the Privatisation Commission’s programme. QESCO and TESCO were excluded on the federal government’s directions.
