FBR orders transfer of tax records after restructuring of field formations

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed the transfer of tax records and files to newly created field formations following the organisational restructuring of Inland Revenue tax offices.

The transfer will cover current and closed files, registers, correspondence, case records, assessment records, audit files, litigation records, electronic databases, digital storage media, maps, plans, and any other official record maintained by the previous formation.

As part of the restructuring, the FBR has established Regional Tax Office-II, Lahore, and abolished the Corporate Tax Office, Islamabad. In its place, two Corporate Zones — Corporate Zone-I and Corporate Zone-II — have been created within the Regional Tax Office, Islamabad, along with one Corporate Zone in the Regional Tax Office, Rawalpindi.

Additionally, the Medium Tax Office Karachi has been renamed Corporate Tax Office-II Karachi, while the existing Corporate Tax Office Karachi has been re-designated as Corporate Tax Office-I Karachi. The Regional Tax Office Lahore has also been renamed Regional Tax Office-I Lahore.

In instructions issued to heads of Inland Revenue field formations, the FBR said it had approved the restructuring, which involved creating new formations, re-designating some existing ones, and abolishing or merging others.

The FBR said the restructuring made it essential to ensure the orderly transfer of all official records, files, registers, assets and other related documents from the previous formations to their successor formations. Officers of the erstwhile units were instructed to hand over all records related to the transferred jurisdiction to the respective successor formations without delay.

The FBR also clarified that the officer who last held charge of a formation before its restructuring, abolition, merger, or re-designation will remain personally responsible for ensuring the complete and proper transfer of all records to the successor formation. This responsibility will apply regardless of the officer's current posting or assignment.
