ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada on Wednesday stressed the need for creating linkage between farmers and academia to promote innovative methods and best international practices in the agriculture sector of the country.
“We need to restore and increase agricultural land with modern technology in a bid to enhance per acre yield in the country, he said while addressing the “National Workshop on Bio- Fertilizer Development Commercialization and legislation”.
The workshop was organised by Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC). Pirzada added that crop pattern had changed across the country, where cotton producing land was being converted to maize and sugarcane.
The minister said that farming and livestock sectors must be promoted through modern innovation in the country. Riaz Pirzada said, “Our big issue is the environment and climate change, which is harming the production of different crops in the country.”
He added that smog and garbage are also potential threats to the country’s agriculture sector.
The minister said that farmers must get support from scientific research, and through soil tests, farmers can choose the suitable crop for their land.
Pirzada also stressed for providing a suitable environment to promote sports for building a healthy society in the country.
