Matco Foods launches new corn sugar plant in Karachi

The company processes and exports rice, rice protein, rice glucose, pink salt, condiments and spices, dessert mixes etc and its new plant has a capacity to produce 4,000 metric tons corn sugar per year.

Matco Foods Limited, one of the largest rice exporters in Pakistan, has announced the start of commercial operations of its new plant that produces dextrose monohydrate, a form of corn sugar used in the food and beverage industry.

The plant is located on company-owned land at Super Highway Industrial Area, Karachi, and has a capacity of 4,000 metric tons per year.

The company said in a filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday that the plant was completed in 14 months and underwent extensive testing and inspection before commissioning. The project has created new jobs and economic opportunities for the country, and will also earn vital foreign exchange through exports, the company said.

Dextrose monohydrate is a natural monosaccharide and carbohydrate that acts as a sweetener, thickener, and bulking agent in various products. Matco Foods is principally engaged in the processing and export of rice, rice protein, rice glucose, pink salt, condiments and spices, dessert mixes etc. It has five processing plants and exports its products to over 65 countries under the brand name “Falak”.

The company said it is committed to diversifying the industrial base and providing value addition for its stakeholders and Pakistan’s economy. It is among the top 100 exporters from the country and a dedicated partner of Pakistan’s industrial vision.
