Pakistan’s short-term inflation, measured through the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), fell by 0.69% during the week ending April 17, 2025, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on Friday. Compared to the same week last year, inflation dropped by 2.72%.
The decline was mainly driven by lower prices of key food items including tomatoes (down 22.77%), chicken (11.05%), onions (9.82%), and wheat flour (2.37%). In contrast, minor increases were noted in prices of clothing materials like shirting and lawn, as well as pulses and meats.
Of the 51 items monitored, prices of 16 rose, 18 fell, while 17 remained unchanged.
Inflation dropped the most for the lowest income group on a weekly basis, declining 0.80%, while the highest income group saw a rise of 0.64%. On a yearly basis, the lowest income group experienced a decline of 3.35% in inflation.
The average price of a 50 kg bag of Sona urea fell 0.58% to Rs4,936, while cement prices rose 0.55% week-on-week to Rs1,217, marking a 15.77% increase compared to last year.
