CDA achieves record Rs25 billion development spending in fiscal year

Chairman Randhawa orders stronger financial recovery and new revenue strategies

ISLAMABAD:
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has achieved a record development expenditure of Rs25 billion during the current fiscal year, reflecting an exorbitant focus on infrastructure, beautification, and public welfare initiatives in Islamabad, in times of financial distress.

The figure was disclosed during a high-level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, on Friday. The session, attended by CDA board members—including Member Finance, Member Estate, Member Administration, Member Engineering, Member Planning and Design, Member Environment—as well as senior officials from the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration and the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), reviewed the financial standing, revenue streams, and progress on ongoing projects.

Randhawa stressed the need to strengthen CDA’s financial independence, directing all departments to prioritise the timely completion of development, beautification, tourism, and public welfare projects.

To enhance financial recovery, Randhawa ordered the establishment of a Special Recovery Unit under the supervision of Member Finance, with full cooperation from all directorates. He also called for tighter financial monitoring across departments.

The CDA and DMA were instructed to conduct a comprehensive survey of all leased properties, compile updated data, and initiate legal actions against defaulters. This includes issuing notices for illegal usage and cancelling expired leases where dues remain unpaid.

Additionally, Randhawa tasked the Resource Wing with developing new revenue-generation strategies and practical proposals to be incorporated into the next fiscal year’s budget. These measures are aimed at ensuring the financial sustainability of the authority and the uninterrupted execution of future development projects.

The drive to strengthen revenue collection and enhance financial efficiency comes amid growing pressure to improve civic infrastructure and maintain the rapid pace of development in the federal capital.
