Huawei is interested in investing in Brazil’s data center market but is waiting for the government to introduce a planned tax break scheme, a company executive said on Wednesday.
Atilio Rulli, Huawei’s vice president of public relations for Latin America and the Caribbean, said the company wants to invest but needs the government to move forward with the incentives. “We want the government to implement these incentives, which are good for the country, and the time has to be now,” he said.
The Brazilian government is preparing a proposal for tax breaks aimed at boosting technology investments and plans to send it to Congress soon, a finance ministry adviser said last month.
Brazil is working to grow its role in the global data center industry, drawing on its strong supply of renewable energy. The country is already attracting interest from global companies, including ByteDance.
Speaking at an event hosted by state development bank BNDES, Rulli said Huawei could support the sector by offering services related to connectivity, storage, and energy.
