Nvidia sees strong AI chip demand as China welcomes foreign investment

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the company is ready to deepen cooperation with Chinese firms in artificial intelligence.

He made the comments during his third visit to China this year, where he met with Chinese officials including Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, Vice Premier He Lifeng, and Ren Hongbin, head of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.

China's Commerce Ministry said in a statement that Wang encouraged Nvidia and other multinational firms to offer high-quality and reliable products to Chinese customers. The ministry also reaffirmed that China will continue to open its market and attract foreign investment.

At a press event in Beijing, Huang praised AI models developed by Chinese companies such as Deepseek, Alibaba, and Tencent, calling them “world class.” He also said AI is changing how supply chains operate.

Chinese officials told Huang they welcome foreign investment. Nvidia declined to comment further.

The Commerce Ministry said the U.S. government has informed Beijing that it will allow the sale of Nvidia's H20 AI chips to China. Huang said demand for the H20 is strong but shipments have not started as export license approvals are still pending.

Nvidia has announced it is working on a new chip for the Chinese market, the RTX Pro GPU. The chip is designed for smart factories and robotics, and it complies with U.S. export rules.
