Proposal for Gwadar-Gulf Ferry Service reviewed to boost regional trade and connectivity

Minister for Maritime Affairs chairs meeting to review ferry service proposals, with full cooperation from Balochistan government

ISLAMABAD – A high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, reviewed the technical, operational, and financial proposals for launching a ferry service between Gwadar and key Gulf destinations. The proposed service aims to offer a cost-effective and efficient transportation option for both passengers and cargo, and is considered a crucial step in expanding trade and travel links between Pakistan and the Gulf states.

In a strategic effort to advance the initiative, Minister Chaudhry held a telephonic conversation with the Chief Minister of Balochistan to discuss the long-term potential of the ferry service. The Chief Minister assured full cooperation from the provincial government, emphasizing the significant socio-economic benefits the project would bring to Balochistan and the broader region.

According to various media reports, as much as five private firms submitted proposals for the ferry service. Minister Chaudhry highlighted the ferry service’s strategic importance, noting that it could help reduce freight and travel costs, while promoting regional trade integration and stimulating maritime activity. He further emphasized that the service would ease travel between Pakistan and Gulf states and position Gwadar as a vital link in regional connectivity, fostering long-term economic development.

The meeting concluded with instructions for further evaluations of the submitted proposals, with authorities directed to address all regulatory, technical, and logistical aspects before the ferry service’s launch.
