WASHINGTON: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said Pakistan wants to expand trade and investment ties with the United States, calling the US its largest trading partner.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Washington on Saturday after holding several meetings with senior American officials.
Aurangzeb is leading a Pakistani delegation that met with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutonk and US Trade Representative Jameson Grey. According to the Finance Ministry, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to building a stable economic partnership.
Talks focused on increasing bilateral trade, encouraging investment flows, and addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers.
Aurangzeb said Pakistan is ready to continue a constructive dialogue on economic and trade matters. He noted that some issues still need further discussion and added that Pakistan’s leadership would announce important steps in the coming days.
The visit comes as the US is reportedly urging Pakistan to take clear actions toward a bilateral trade agreement before a key deadline in August. In response, Pakistani officials are expected to present a policy plan to remove trade restrictions and promote foreign investment.
Both delegations said they were satisfied with the recent progress in expanding cooperation, especially in energy, technology, and agriculture sectors.
