ISLAMABAD – In a major policy development, the government has committed to providing full support to Pakistan’s gems and jewellery sector, outlining strategic initiatives aimed at boosting non-traditional exports and unlocking the industry’s untapped potential.
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan made this commitment during a meeting with the All Pakistan Small Gems Jewellers and Training Association (APSGTA), led by Secretary General Qari Muhammad Ashraf. The APSGTA delegation called for the revival of S.R.O 760 and exclusion from S.R.O 924, citing the sector’s strong compliance record over the past four years.
Minister Khan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to export-led economic growth, recognizing the gems and jewelry sector as a vital part of Pakistan’s diversification strategy. He emphasized the need for balanced reforms, ease of doing business, and improved market access for small exporters and artisans.
Acknowledging APSGTA’s proactive engagement, the Minister announced that the Ministry would forward its recommendations to the Prime Minister’s Office for policy facilitation. In addition, he directed officials to ensure the sector’s participation in upcoming international business forums in France, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia, further expanding its global presence.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration, skills training, and efforts to strengthen market linkages, particularly for empowering artisans and women entrepreneurs in underserved areas. This comprehensive approach aims to bolster the sector’s growth, enhance its global competitiveness, and increase its contribution to Pakistan’s economic development.
