New initiative aims to improve transport and boost tourism for twin cities

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday approved the launch of a rail car project to connect Islamabad and Rawalpindi, emphasizing its significance as a public welfare initiative to ease transportation for residents of the twin cities and surrounding areas. The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony of the T-Chowk Flyover, where the prime minister directed Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi to begin work on the project immediately.

The prime minister highlighted that the necessary railway track for the service was already in place, enabling swift implementation of the project. He stated that once operational, the rail car service would not only improve daily commuting but also cater to tourists visiting the region.

PM Shehbaz Sharif assured that the federal government would fully support the initiative, stressing its importance for the region’s development.

Earlier, the prime minister inaugurated the Rs. 1.4 billion T-Chowk Flyover project at the intersection of Islamabad Expressway and G.T. Road. The flyover, expected to be completed within 150 days, is designed to ease traffic congestion and improve the flow of commuters between Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby areas.
