Electricity bills waived for domestic consumers in flood-hit areas

Federal government bears cost, assessments underway for commercial and industrial losses

ISLAMABAD: Electricity bills for domestic consumers in flood-affected areas have been waived for August, with the federal government covering the cost from its own resources.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a video statement on Sunday that households who have already paid their bills will receive adjustments in upcoming bills, with clear instructions issued to implement the relief.

He added that losses for agricultural, commercial, and industrial power consumers are being assessed, and collection of their electricity bills for August has been immediately deferred. Additional relief measures will be considered if the assessment shows higher losses.

Power distribution companies have been directed to act promptly, while the Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to full rehabilitation of flood-affected areas.
