Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak on Monday directed strict enforcement of wheat and flour prices across the division, warning that profiteering and hoarding would not be tolerated.
Chairing a review meeting on the matter, he instructed that rates of flour be fixed at the tehsil level to address local cost variations and that price lists be clearly displayed on panaflex boards for public awareness.
Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema briefed the meeting that transportation costs were creating price differences among tehsils. He assured that corrective measures were being taken to minimize the gap.
The commissioner further ordered that flour and wheat seized from hoarders must be immediately released into the market at official rates rather than returned to violators. He directed all deputy commissioners of Rawalpindi Division to submit daily reports on supply and pricing, while price magistrates were told to initiate prompt legal action against non-compliant mills, dealers, or retailers.
Khattak stressed that uninterrupted supply at government rates was essential to provide maximum relief to the public and avert any potential shortage crisis.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema, Additional Commissioner Coordination Syed Nuzarat Ali, and officials of the relevant departments.
