Dar calls for coordinated gas strategy to stabilize fertilizer supply and prices

Deputy PM directs ministries, regulators, and industry to protect farmers from volatility and shortages

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday urged a joint approach among ministries, regulators, and fertilizer manufacturers to ensure predictable gas supplies and prevent market distortions.

Chairing a high-level meeting on sustainable gas supply for fertilizer plants, Dar emphasized that a clear strategy must be devised to stabilize fertilizer prices and guarantee timely availability of urea for farmers, according to a statement from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office.

The participants reviewed current gas allocations to fertilizer units, examined pricing mechanisms, and considered measures to balance industry sustainability with farmers’ affordability.

The meeting brought together the Ministers for National Food Security, Power, Climate Change, and Privatization, along with SAPM Tariq Bajwa, the Chairmen of the Federal Board of Revenue and the Competition Commission of Pakistan, the National Coordinator for Power, senior government officials, and representatives of the fertilizer sector.
