Plans for a modern high-speed train service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi have gained momentum, as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Pakistan Railways finalize preparations to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The decision was reached during a meeting held at CDA Headquarters on Friday, chaired by Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Senior officials from both organizations reviewed the draft MoU and discussed the project’s key elements, including the proposed route, layout plan, business model, and adoption of eco-friendly technology.
Randhawa highlighted that the train would be integrated with feeder electric bus services to ensure better accessibility, while offering commuters an affordable, safe, and comfortable option. He stressed that the project would meet international standards and best practices.
“The completion of this project will significantly reduce the overall traffic flow in Islamabad and Rawalpindi,” Randhawa said, pointing to worsening congestion caused by the rising number of vehicles.
Calling the initiative “a gift for the people of the twin cities,” he said the train would not only provide modern transport facilities but also contribute to the broader development of the capital.
