Dr. Waqar Masood Khan, former Federal Secretary for Finance Division, passed away on Saturday. A respected economist, Dr. Waqar was known for his extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, and he was also a frequent contributor to Business Recorder.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences, highlighting Dr. Waqar’s invaluable contributions to the government of Pakistan. “Late Dr Waqar Masood’s services to the government of Pakistan will always be remembered,” the PM stated in his message.
Dr. Waqar held several prestigious positions throughout his career, including Special Secretary to the Prime Minister, Secretary Finance Division, Secretary Economic Affairs Division, Secretary Petroleum & Natural Resources, and Secretary Textile Industry. He was also a published author, writing two books on eliminating Riba (interest) from the economy.
In addition, Dr. Waqar served on the boards of various financial and banking institutions, including the State Bank of Pakistan, National Bank of Pakistan, and the Islamic Development Bank. He represented Pakistan as the alternate Governor in the IMF, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank.
